FIREWORK FRENZY

Steer a firework rocket through a night city: fly the rings, light the fireworks and set off chain reactions before your fuel runs out.

You are a firework rocket over a pixel city at night. Your flame only pushes you the way your nose points and gravity never lets go, so every flight is a wild, swooping arc. Fly through the rings, touch or flame the fireworks to light them, and watch one burst set off the next in a chain worth more with every pop. Burst a whole heart, star or circle for a big shape bonus.

Ten levels teach one idea each, from CHAIN REACTION to LIVE WIRES and BIRD SEASON, up to a GRAND FINALE. Earn up to three stars on each by bursting everything and saving fuel, land gently on roofs to steady yourself, then take on ENDLESS mode as the city keeps on growing.

What is in it: A pixel-art arcade game about steering a firework rocket. No violence; a crash is a burst of sparks. The screen flashes briefly and faintly on firework bursts, and more strongly on shape bonuses, crashes and level clears. More for parents

How to play

FIREWORK FRENZY puts you in charge of a single firework rocket over a pixel-art city at night. Your flame only pushes you the way the nose is pointing, and gravity pulls on you the whole time, so you fly in wild, swooping arcs. Each level asks you to fly through every ring and burst a set number of fireworks, shown at the top of the screen, before your fuel runs out.

Turn with the Left and Right arrows or A and D. Hold Space (or Up or W) to thrust; every fresh press also gives a small extra kick. R retries, P or Esc pauses and M mutes. On a phone, the < and > buttons on the left turn you, and holding anywhere on the right half of the screen fires the rocket.

You do not move until you first thrust. To light a firework, touch it or sweep your flame across it. When one bursts it lights every firework close by, so a whole cluster can go off one after another. Crash into a building, the street, a live wire or a bird and the run is over. You can land, though: come down gently and roughly upright on the street or a roof and the rocket rests there until you thrust again.

Tips and strategy

Think in short bursts. Fuel is measured in seconds of thrust, so tapping and gliding goes much further than holding the button down. Turn first, then push.

Let the fireworks do the work. Each burst in a chain is worth more than the last (50 points times its place in the chain), and a chain of three or more gets a tiny freeze-frame. Light the edge of a cluster and let it spread instead of touching each one.

Finish whole shapes. Some levels arrange fireworks as a heart, a star or a circle. Burst every one in the shape for a SHAPE BONUS of 1000 points.

Use the ground to rest. If you are tumbling out of control, set down softly on a roof, straighten up and launch again. Just remember that landing with an empty tank ends the run.

Leftover fuel is points. Rings are worth 200 points and give you a little fuel back, and whatever fuel you have left when you clear a level turns into bonus points.

Watch the wires and birds. The line strung between two posts snags you, and birds flap back and forth on a fixed path, so wait for the gap.

What's in it

Ten hand-made levels, each one teaching something new: FIRST LIGHT, OVER THE TOP, CHAIN REACTION, LIVE WIRES, BIRD SEASON, HEART OF THE CITY, SLALOM, THE ALLEY, STARLIGHT and the GRAND FINALE, which mixes clusters, a circle and a heart. Clearing a level unlocks the next. You earn one star for clearing it, two for bursting every firework, and three if you also finish with at least a quarter of your fuel left.

There is also an ENDLESS mode, where the city keeps building itself as you fly and gets busier the further you go. Rings and bursts refuel you, and your score is your distance plus your points, with your best score saved.

Everything is chunky pixel art: a dithered night sky, a pixel moon, two layers of skyline and buildings with lit windows, with bursts that trail and crackle. All the sound is made live in your browser, from the roar of the thrust to a whistle that rises with your speed.

Questions

Does it work on a phone? Yes, with on-screen turn buttons on the left and a fire area on the right.

Do I need an account? No. Your unlocked levels, stars and endless best are saved in your browser.

Does it flash? Yes. The whole screen flashes briefly and faintly on every firework burst, a bit more on long chains, and more strongly on shape bonuses, crashes and when you clear a level.

Is it violent? No. A crash is just a burst of sparks and smoke, and you try again.
