BLOCK ROYALE

The 8x8 block puzzle scored like a poker hand: clears earn Chips, streaks build Mult, and charms break the rules.

Drag pieces onto an 8x8 board and fill rows and columns to clear them. Every clear scores Chips x Mult: 10 Chips per block cleared, and Mult grows with lines cleared at once and with your streak of clears in a row. Each round gives you a target and 20 placements. A run is 8 antes of a Small, a Big and a Boss round, and the bosses bend the rules: one stops columns clearing, one shrinks the board, one deals pieces one at a time.

Between rounds the shop sells charms, which fire left to right on every clear, and one-shot glyphs like Bomb, Undo and Redeal. There are 60 charms and 8 glyphs to build with. Daily gives everyone the same seed with a shareable result card, Zen is endless classic play, and runs earn XP that unlocks 5 more decks (6 in all), with 8 stakes each.

What is in it: A gentle block puzzle with no violence or scares. Clears set off sparkles, short glows along the cleared lines and a small screen shake (a bigger one for the Bomb glyph). More for parents

How to play

BLOCK ROYALE is the familiar 8x8 block puzzle with a twist borrowed from card games: every clear is scored like a poker hand. You get three pieces at a time in the tray. Drag one onto the board, and any full row or column clears. Hold a piece over a spot that would clear lines and they light up, with a pill showing exactly what that drop would score.

A clear is worth Chips x Mult. Chips are 10 for every block cleared (gem blocks are worth 30). Mult starts at 1, adds 1 for every line cleared at once, and adds your streak, which counts how many placements in a row have each cleared something. Miss a clear and the streak is lost.

Each round has a target score and 20 placements to reach it. A run has 8 antes, and each ante has a Small round, a Big round and a Boss round. Ante 1 asks for 400, 600 and 800 points, and the targets grow from there. If nothing fits, the run is over.

On a keyboard, 1 2 3 pick a piece, the arrow keys or W A S D move it, and Space or Enter places it. 4 and 5 use a glyph, Z undoes with the Undo glyph, and Esc pauses.

Tips and strategy

  • Keep the streak alive. The streak adds straight to Mult, so leave yourself an almost-full line to finish next turn.
  • Order your charms. Charms fire left to right. Put the ones that add Mult first and the ones that multiply Mult (x-Mult) at the end, so they multiply the bigger number. Tap a charm in the shop to move it or sell it.
  • Bank some gold. Between rounds you earn $1 interest for every $5 you hold, up to $5. Leftover placements pay $1 for every 2.
  • Read the boss early. The ante's boss is named from the Small round on. If the Pillar is coming (columns don't clear), buy charms that love rows.
  • Hold a rescue glyph. Redeal, Bomb, Shrink and Undo can all save a full board. If you hold one when nothing fits, the game waits for you to use it.
  • Mind the materials. Gold blocks pay $1 each when cleared, foil adds +2 Mult per block, glass multiplies Mult by 1.2 per block, and stone needs two clears to break.

What's in it

Three modes. Run is the full 8-ante climb. Daily uses the date as its seed, so everyone gets the same pieces, shops and bosses that day, and you get an emoji card to share your result. Zen is endless classic play with no targets and no charms, ending when the board is full.

After each round there is a shop with 3 charms, 2 glyphs and one change to your piece deck. Rerolls start at $4 and go up by $1 each time. There are 60 charms in four rarities (Copper $4, Silver $6, Gold $8, Prism $12). There are 8 glyphs, one-shot tricks for $3: Rotate, Redeal, Bomb, Gild, Shrink, Undo, Extend (+3 placements) and Foil. You can hold two.

Eight bosses bend the rules: the Drip deals pieces one at a time, the Monolith puts stone in the middle, the Pillar stops columns clearing, the Vise shrinks the board every 6 placements, the Hush silences your leftmost charm, the Weight deals only big pieces, the Clock gives you just 14 placements, and the Chill stops streaks adding Mult.

Every run earns XP, even a lost one. You start with the Jewel Deck, and levels and achievements (there are 10) unlock the other 5 of the 6 decks. Each deck has 8 stakes of rising difficulty.

Questions

I filled the board on my first run. Is that it?

Not always. Once per run, on the two easiest stakes, a full board with no rescue glyph gives you a Second Wind: the tray is reshuffled instead of ending the run. Zen and the harder stakes keep the hard loss.

Can I speed it up?

Yes. The pause menu has 1x, 1.5x and 2x game speed for the scoring animations and banners.

Can I play on a phone?

Yes, in portrait or landscape. Drag with your finger, or tap a piece and then the board.

Does it save?

Yes, in your own browser: your level, unlocks, achievements, best scores, settings and even a run in progress, so a reload offers Continue. Clearing your browser's site data clears the save.
