How to play
TINY KNIGHT is a top-down pixel adventure on a big island. A shadow castle sits on a lake in the middle, reachable only by a bridge you pay for. Move with W A S D or the arrow keys. Attack with J, Z or left click, which swings towards the mouse; hold it to chain a three-hit combo whose third hit is a wide finisher. K, Space, X or right click is a dodge roll, and you cannot be hurt in the middle of it.
E does everything else: hold it to chop trees and mine rocks, and tap it to open chests, talk to people and use a workbench. Once you have a bow, shoot with L or F. Q or H drinks a potion, which heals 40% of your health. I, Tab or B opens your bag, M the island map, Esc or P pauses and N mutes.
A quest line at the top of the screen always tells you what to do next, and an arrow points at it: the next tree, the workbench, a rock, Foreman Bram or the throne room.
Tips and strategy
- Make a Wooden Sword first. It costs 5 wood and doubles your damage over bare fists. A Wooden Pickaxe (8 wood) comes next, because stone opens up the rest of the workbench.
- Craft potions from slime gel. Three gel makes a potion. Slimes drop gel often, so a few minutes in the meadow keeps you stocked.
- Watch for the tell. Every dangerous attack is shown before it lands: a flash, a "!", a red circle on the ground or a red line. Roll through it rather than away from it.
- Face your shield at the danger. Shields only block hits from the direction you are facing. The Iron Shield takes 65% off those.
- Not every rock is a rock. Some in the Pebble Hills are Rocklings that wake up and slam the ground.
- Go home to heal. You heal slowly out of combat, but much faster in Oakhaven.
- Punish Umbra's charge. After the Shadow King charges along his red line he is stunned, and takes 1.6 times damage until he recovers.
What's in it
Five zones that get harder the further you go: the Meadow to the south, Whisperwood to the west, the Pebble Hills to the east (where the iron ore is) and the Hollow Graves to the north. Last comes the castle island. Night falls for part of every eight-minute day, bringing extra zombies and bats and tougher monsters.
A crafting chain at the workbench: four swords from Wooden to Shadowbane, forged from shadow shards; Stone and Iron axes and Wooden and Stone pickaxes; Wooden and Iron shields; Patchwork, Bone and Iron armour; a Hunting Bow with arrows; and potions. Each tool tier unlocks the next material.
Twelve kinds of monster, from slimes (the King Slime splits into three), zombies, skeletons and bats to Shadow Hounds that pounce, Shadow Wisps that teleport and fire homing orbs, and dashing Shadow Knights. Three Shadow Sentinels guard the castle courtyard.
The bridge is built by Foreman Bram in five stages you can watch go up, paid for with coins plus wood, stone and iron. Coins come from monsters, fourteen treasure chests and selling spare loot at Pip's stall in Oakhaven, which also sells potions and arrows.
Umbra, the Shadow King, waits in the throne room and fights in three phases. He starts with leaping slams and charges, then adds teleport strikes and calls in helpers, and finally speeds up with eruptions, double charges and spirals of orbs.
Questions
What happens when I die?
You come straight back with all your gear and lose 10% of your coins. You restart in Oakhaven, or at the lake camp once the bridge has been started.
How do I get into the castle?
Fund all five bridge stages with Bram, walk across, and beat the three Sentinels in the courtyard. That opens the throne room door, which seals behind you.
Is there anything to do after the Shadow King?
Yes. Choose Keep Playing on the victory screen to stay on the island in free play.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. A stick on the left moves you, and buttons on the right attack, roll, use, shoot and drink potions.
Does it save?
Yes, in your own browser. It saves every 15 seconds and after every craft, chest, bridge stage, death and boss kill. Clearing your browser's site data clears the save.
