How to play
TURBO GOAL is football with rocket cars, seen from the side. You drive the blue car and attack the orange goal on the right. There is one giant glowing ball, and the first job is always the same: race to it, hit it hard, and knock it into the net. A match lasts two minutes. If the score is level at 0:00 you go to golden-goal overtime, where the next goal wins.
On a keyboard, A and D (or the left and right arrows) drive and turn you round. Space, J or Z jumps, and holding it a moment longer jumps higher. Press jump again in the air for a double jump, or hold a direction as you press it to flip that way. Flips hit the ball much harder than just driving into it. Shift, K or X is boost. In the air, W and S (or up and down) tilt the nose of your car. Esc or P pauses and M mutes.
Boost is the dial in the bottom corner. It goes up to 100, you start each kickoff with at least 40, a full tank drains in about three seconds of holding the button, and it fills back up on its own, faster when your wheels are on the ground. Hold boost long enough and you go supersonic, shown by a white streak. Ram the other car while supersonic and it is demolished: it explodes and is out of play for just over two seconds.
Your wheels stick to the arena, so you can drive up the curved walls and along the ceiling. After a goal you get a slow-motion explosion and a short replay. Tap, or press jump, to skip it.
Tips and strategy
- Flip into the ball. Jump, then press jump again while holding towards the ball. A flip hits far harder than a plain bump, and it is the easiest way to score from distance.
- Win the kickoff. Every bot races the kickoff at full throttle with boost on and flips into the ball. Hold drive and boost straight away, and flip just before you reach the ball.
- Do not push it into your own net. If the ball is between you and your goal, drive round it or jump over it rather than shoving it back towards your own end.
- Save some boost. An empty tank leaves you crawling back on defence. Short bursts go a long way, and you refill quicker on the ground than in the air.
- Go for demolitions. A supersonic hit removes a defender for over two seconds, which is plenty of time to score into an empty goal.
What's in it
You can play against a bot at three levels, Rookie, Pro and All-Star, or two players on one keyboard. In two-player mode blue uses W A S D, Space to jump and Left Shift to boost, and orange uses the arrow keys, Enter and Right Shift.
The game cheers your play with pop-ups for a shot on goal, a save, an epic save, a demolition and an aerial goal. At the end you see goals, shots, saves, demos and touches for both sides.
Every match earns XP, more for winning, scoring, saving and shooting, and more again on harder bots: Pro pays 1.4 times as much and All-Star 1.8 times. Every 300 XP is a new level, and each level from 2 to 20 unlocks something for the garage. There are 8 paint jobs, 3 car bodies (Bulldog, Dart and Brute), 6 boost trails including Fire, Ice and Rainbow, and 6 goal explosions such as Fireworks, Confetti and Lightning. The title screen keeps your wins, losses, goals and best winning streak.
Questions
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. Put your left thumb anywhere on the left half of the screen to get a joystick, and use the big JUMP and BOOST buttons on the right. Turning the phone sideways gives a wider view.
Which bot should I start with?
Rookie. It still contests every kickoff, but it is beatable while you learn to flip. Move up to Pro and All-Star for more XP per match.
Does it save?
Yes, in your own browser: your XP and level, your garage picks, your records and your sound settings. Clearing your browser's site data clears the save.
